EastEnders’ Reiss to deceive Sonia again as money worries continue

EastEnders spoilers follow.

Reiss Colwell will deceive Sonia Fowler again in EastEnders as his financial troubles persist.

Reiss has been struggling with money over the course of the past few months, with the character resorting to using the money from his comatose wife, Debbie, in order to pay for IVF treatment for Sonia.

This led to a terse exchange with Bianca Jackson after she discovered his actions, though Sonia stood by him despite admitting that his antics were immoral.

Next week’s scenes will see Sonia attending an appointment to transfer her embryos, though Reiss isn’t wholly in the present as he receives a call telling him that the payment for Debbie’s care is now three months overdue.

The total bill is estimated to be £18k, with Reiss anxious as to how he will pay the money. He decides to rent a room out in the house to ease some of the worries, but Sonia is fuming after she discovers he went behind her back with the idea.

He confides in her that he is seriously worried about his finances, though Sonia assures him that they will get through it, even if she disapproves of the idea of a lodger. Things look up for the pair when Sharon offers Reiss a lifeline, asking him to chase up her invoices.

His greed gets the better of him, however, as he pockets some of the collected money for himself. He then feels even more guilty after Sharon gives him some extra money for completing the job at such short notice.

To make matters worse, he later lies to Sonia that he now has enough funds to pay off Debbie’s outstanding health bill. Will Reiss ever truly be able to sort his woes, and will Sonia find out about his latest lie?

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
