EastEnders fans have been gripped to their screens this spring after fan-favourite Yolande Trueman (played by Angela Wynter) was thrown into the soap’s most hard-hitting storyline of the year.
Loyal viewers of the BBC One soap will recall how the shopkeeper was assaulted by Pastor Clayton (Howard Saddler)
in a devastating attack which aired in April. More recently, the soap star opened up about the horrifying incident with her husband Patrick (Rudolph Walker).
Thankfully, the pair reported the crime to the police and is currently in the process of pressing charges on the pastor. After watching the heartbreaking scenes unfold on the show, many victims have been inspired to take action for themselves.

Now, the actress has opened up about the wave of supportive feedback she has received from fans online. In a recent interview, she revealed: “I get people messaging me every day about this storyline.
“They say they have been crying a lot. And it has given some people who have been through a similar experience the courage to speak up.
“They have talked to their family about what they’ve been through.” It’s fair to say this is the most high-profile storyline Angela has starred in since she joined EastEnders back in 2003.

The soap star is thrilled with the feedback from the gut-wrenching storyline which has grabbed the hearts of fans up and down the country. She gushed: “It’s good that it is resonating with people. I feel privileged to have been given it.”
Angela went on to add that the impact of the storyline is proof that soaps are still vital to television after witnessing the awareness it has raised on the show. She continued: “Soaps are a powerful thing. People say, ‘I don’t watch that soap’. That’s irrelevant.
“Soaps can touch on things that make people think. It’s not just a soap, it’s dealing with issues.” It comes just days after Levi (Mark Akintimehin) returned to the Square to support Yolande during her terrible ordeal.
But what surprised viewers the most was that her close pal had been doing some digging into Pastor Clayton – and he definitely didn’t come up empty handed. The church goer revealed he had found another woman named Delia who had also accused him of sexual assault back in 2016.
It is understood Delia faced similar disappointment from the police when they decided not to pursue a criminal case against the pastor when she reported him. Fans will have to stay tuned to see if the pair will team up and push charges on the preacher in upcoming episodes.
